Panthers Host VCU Under The Lights

Atlanta, Ga. (October 20, 2008)The Georgia State men's soccer team hosts the Virginia Commonwealth Rams on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. for the first game under the new lights at Panthersville.

Georgia State is coming off of two tough losses last week and look to regain their momentum at home this week. ODU managed to get past the Panthers 1-0 last Wednesday in a strong offensive match. Senior midfielder Joe DeVito led the team with five shots for the day.

The Panthers had another difficult loss on Saturday afternoon as the fell 2-0 to James Madison. JMU dominated the flow of the game, holding the Panthers to only nine shots, compared to its 20. Senior goalkeeper Filipe Carvalho made an outstanding six saves during the contest.

Leading the way for the Panthers offensively are junior Stephan Minyono with six goals, four assists, and 22 shots and senior Dathan Knott with four goals, two assists, and 15 shots. Senior midfielder Linus Warendh is another key player with three goals, three assist, and a team-high 33 shots.

Minyono also continues to lead the CAA in multiple categories. He leads in points with 16, points per game with 1.23, and is tied with Hofstra's Brett Carrington in goals (6) and goals per game (0.46). Knott comes in at eighth in the conference with points per game at 0.91 and is in a two-way tie for fifth for goals per game at 0.36.

The Rams (7-6-0, 3-3-0 CAA) are coming off of two straight shut outs last week. UNC Wilmington managed to get past the Rams 1-0 on Wednesday while the Drexel Dragons came out with a 2-0 victory on Sunday.

VCU is led by junior defender Jorit Loehr and junior forward Forsan Asad-Radwan. Each have netted four goals this season, Loeh has recorded 24 shots and two assists, and Asad-Radwan has made 20 shots and a single assist. Also leading the way for the Rams is senior midfielder Gerson Dos Santos with three goals, five assists, and 20 shots.
