John Leads Men's Golf at JPNI

Georgia State men's golfer Allen John shot a final round 71 to finish fourth at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The freshman's third career event was highlighted by a second round 65 as he led the No. 53-ranked Panthers to a seventh place finish.

Sophomore Alan Fowler fired a career-best 69 in the final round, as the Panthers shot 283 (3-over) on the day. After opening with a pair of 72's on Monday, Fowler finished the event tied for 23rd.

Junior Tom Sherreard continued his consistent play with a final round 72 and finished the event tied for 20th at 2-over. Sophomore Tobias Rosendahl finished tied for 35th after a final round 71, while sophomore Alex Castro tied for 51st after a final round 74.

Host Alabama (No. 10) took home the team title, shooting 10-under par for the event. Auburn (No. 39) finished second at 4-under, while first day leader Southern Methodist finished third at 2-under. No. 5-ranked Baylor (1-under) and No. 8-ranked UNLV (1-over) rounded out the top five. State finished the 54-hole event at 7-over with wins over No. 46 UAB and No. 52 Memphis, both ranked ahead of them in the Golfweek poll.

SMU's Kelly Kraft shot a final round 69 to take home low medalist honors at 6-under par. Auburn's Glenn Northcutt and UNLV's Eddie Olson tied for second at 5-under. John tied with UNLV's Derek Ernst at 4-under par.

The Panthers of Coach Joe Inman will return to the course for their final event of the fall at the Rees Jones Intercollegiate hosted by Michigan State, November 3-4. The event, scheduled to be played a Haig Point Golf Club off the coast of South Carolina, was originally scheduled to be played the first week of September, but had to be postponed due to the affects of Tropical Storm Hanna.
