Sjoholm Second at Carpet Capital; Team T-14

ROCKY FACE, GA. ? Georgia State's Joel Sjoholm finished the second round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate in second place overall at six-under par with a combined score of 138 (70-68) at The Farm Golf Club, a 6,906 yard par 72 layout, in Rocky Face, Ga. on Saturday.

The 23rd-ranked Panthers posted a 25-over-par score of 601 as a team through the second round to hold a tie for 14th-place overall and are currently 21 strokes of the lead held by 31st-ranked South Carolina (+4, 580).

Sjoholm, a senior from Gothenburg, Sweden who is four strokes behind Georgia Tech's Chesson Hadley (-10), teed off from the tenth hole and began his second round with a stretch of three birdies in the first five holes.  The Ping/GCAA Third Team All-American bogeyed the par-five 15th before playing bogey free through the remaining 12 holes where he tallied two more birdies to finish his second round at four-under par.

He carded three birdies in his first round, which he finished Saturday morning because of a suspension due to inclement weather on Friday, for a two-under par first round.

Sjoholm, who was named the Colonial Athletic Association Golfer of the Year and Georgia State Male Athlete of the Year last season, finished ninth in the tournament a year ago and he recently claimed a tie for first in the prestigious International European Amateur Open in Berlin but fell in a playoff.
