Georgia State's opening round of golf at the Carpet Capital Collegiate was only partially completed on Friday due to inclement weather in Dalton, Ga.
On a day that featured the rain, lightning, thunder, wind, puddles and skidding golf balls, all courtesy of the remnants of Hurricane Humberto, the Panthers had the misfortune of being one of the first three teams to tee off on Friday. The first pairings finished the front nine and were in the process of playing the back nine when course marshals stopped play until Saturday. Teams will resume first round action at 8 a.m. on Saturday and tee off for the second round of 18 holes later in the day. Teams who teed of later in the afternoon that played only a few holes will likely finish with drier conditions on Saturday.
The Panthers team score for the completed holes on day one was eight-over par, according to head golf coach Matt Clark. At the time of this release, complete team scores were unavailable.
Coach Clark noted, "I can't judge our play today based on the conditions of the course and not knowing how other teams were scoring. But, it was obviously less then ideal conditions and that is part of an outdoor sport sometimes. We will get a good night's rest and be ready to go on Saturday."
The final round of the scheduled 54-hole event will be played Sunday at The Farm in Rocky Face, just off I-75 in Dalton. The event is open to the public.
Live scoring can be found at GolfStat.com and updates will be posted to GeorgiaStateSports.com following each day's action.
