EVANS, Ga. (April 1, 2007) -- The Georgia State men's golf team tried to put together a run to capture the top spot at the Administaff Augusta State Invitational, but the Panthers came up just short missing out on the top spot by four strokes and holding strong to finish in third-place with an 856 total.

Coastal Carolina was able to make the necessary run and beat out North Carolina for a one-stroke victory with an 853 total. State was able to record its highest finish of the season and its fourth top 5 finish of the year.

State also finished ahead of six ranked teams including three-ranked (No. 6 USC-Aiken, No. 13 East Tennessee State and No. 15 Tennessee) in front of the 20th-ranked Panthers.

Junior Joel Sjoholm recorded his best finish of the season with a tie for fifth-place. Sjoholm also matched his career lowest score firing a 67 in the final round and he was able to do it in dramatic fashion with an eagle on No. 18 to end his day.

Freshman Tom Sherreard also matched his career best finish with a tie for 11th-place after a final round of 74. Senior Derek Oakey also matched Sherreared and finished tied for 11th after a closing round of 73.

Sophomore Mark Haastrup ended the tournament tied for 37th-place and closed with a round in which he pared all 18 holes to finish with an even-par 72.

Senior Ben Taylor finished tied for 49th-place after closing with a 73.

The Panthers will be close to home in their next tournament in Alpharetta, Ga. for the U.S. Collegiate Championships April 9-11.
