WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (March 24, 2007) -- The Georgia State men's golf team ended their individual tournament with Georgia Tech with a one-round team total of 286 at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club site of this year's NCAA Championships.
For the Panthers, senior Ben Taylor led the way with a 70. Senior Derek Oakey, junior Joel Sjoholm and sophomore Mark Haastrup fired rounds of 72. Freshman Tom Sherreard finished with a 74. Senior Morgan Nix ended with a 77 and freshman Maurice Jordan shot a 78.
"This was a great experience to get to play two extra rounds on the site of this year's NCAA Championships," said head coach Matt Clark. "It will be nice coming back to this event with some home-course knowledge. We were able to play it with two different types of winds both days, which I think will be a big help coming back."
Tech's one-round team total was a 279. For the Jackets, Roberto Castro had the low-round for the day with a 68. Kevin Larsen finished with a 69, Cameron Tringale fired a 70 and Chesson Hadley finished with a 72.
The Panthers will be back in action March 31 in Augusta, Ga. for the Administaff Augusta State Invitational. State will send Taylor, Sjoholm, Haastrup, Oakey and Sherreard into action in Augusta.
