ROCKY FACE, Ga. (Sep. 16, 2006) -- The Georgia State men's golf team finished round two of the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic on Saturday with another solid round of 286 placing them tied for fifth place with N.C. State at 4-under for the tournament.
The only problem with another 2-under round was that it was not low enough to catch the teams at the top of leader board including Clemson, who moved into first place with an 8-under round of 280, at 18-under and Alabama at 15-under.
"We had another solid round today," said head coach Matt Clark. "The only problem was that we did not go low enough. We are 14-shots back but the tournament doesn't end today it ends tomorrow. I know we are going to go out tomorrow and give it our all and see what happens."
Junior Joel Sjoholm led the Panthers in round two with a 4-under round of 68. Freshman Tom Sherreard bettered his 70 from Friday with another 3-under round of 69 on Saturday. Sherreardd is now in seventh place in the individual results at 5-under for the tournament.
Senior Ben Taylor finished with a 1-over round of 73, sophomore Mark Haastrup and senior Derek Oakey both finished with 76s.
"This has been an outstanding field with some of the best teams in the nation," Clark said. "We are going toe-to-toe with them and coming out in good position."
The final round of the Carpet Capital is Sunday with the Panthers set to tee-off at 8:45 a.m. Golfstat will provide live scoring of the event.
