EL PASO, TEXAS (Nov. 21, 2006) -- Georgia State sophomore golfer Mark Haastrup finished in 15th at the Western Refining College All-American Golf Classic after carding a final round 70 to finish at 3-under for the tournament (69-71-70--210).
Haastrup opened his final round with three straight bogeys before getting back on track with three straight birdies. He continued his up and down play with two more bogeys before firing off three more birdies including a birdie on his final hole to finish under par for the second time in the tournament.
Fireworks were expected at this year's All-American held at the El Paso Country Club when 28 of the nation's best collegiate golfers took center stage. Records fell at this year's annual event.
Georgia's Chris Kirk took the overall title after a final round of 64, which put him at 18-under for the tournament. His three round tournament total of 195 matched the tournament record. Vanderbilt's Luke List and Florida's Billy Horschel both shot rounds of 62 to break the tournament's single-round record. And Minnesota's Niall Turner recorded just the third hole-in-one in tournament history.
Haastrup will be back in action with the rest of the Panther squad as they kick off the spring season Feb. 10 in Gainesville, Fla. for the Gator Intercollegiate.
