Georgia State in Fifth Place After Day 1
BIRMINGHAM, AL (Oct. 9, 2006) -- The Georgia State men's golf team followed an exceptional morning round with another solid round of golf firing a 280 (11-under) to secure fifth-place at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, Monday.
Host team Alabama is in first place at 26-under.
Mark Haastrup followed up his new career low of 63 from the morning session with an even par round of 71. Haastrup is currently tied for second with four other golfers at 8-under par for the tournament.
Ben Taylor improved on his morning round of 71 to card an afternoon round of 68 to lead the Panthers and now sits in a tie for 17th-place at 3-under.
Joel Sjoholm is just one shot behind Taylor at 2-under after an afternoon round of 69. Derek Oakey carded a 73 and Tom Sherreard finished with a 72.
The Panthers hit the course again tommorrow for another round of 36-holes to close out the tournament.
