MONROE, LA— Maleah Heard is the Sun Belt Conference champion in the 100 meters, leading the Georgia State track and field team at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships at Groseclose Track on the campus of ULM.
The Panthers also got runner-up finishes from Kayli Williams and Keniya Walker to finish in ninth place with 44 points.
Heard, the junior from Las Vegas, ran a time of 11.49 to edge Naj Watson of Georgia Southern in the 100 meter final. She also placed seventh in the 200 meters with a 24.08 time.
Williams scored in two events, placing second in the 100-meter hurdles with a 13.56 time and seventh in the 400 hurdles at 1:02.69.
Valissa Brown also scored in multiple events, highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 19-11¾ feet. The senior also placed eighth in the 100 hurdles (14.64).
Walker finished second in the 400 meters with a time of 53.97 time after clocking a facility-record 53.65 in the prelims.
Freshman Kendall Ward placed fifth in the high jump with mark of 5-5¾ feet.
Georgia State's 4x400 relay team posted a season-best 3:42.24 time to finish fifth overall in the event.
Other Notables:
> Julie Tonon marked a personal-best time of 19:44.71 in the 5000 meters.
> Jessica James jumped for 11.89-meters to finish 12th overall in the triple jump.
> Ronasche Fluker posted an 11.76-meter triple jump to finish 15th overall.
> Nyah Brown finished 16th overall in the triple jump with an 11.75-meter distance.
