Weber Leads Panthers to Second Place After Day 1 of Colonel Classic

RICHMOND, KY. -- Led by freshman Amelie Weber, the Georgia State women's golf team stands in second place after 36 holes at the Colonel Classic, hosted by Eastern Kentucky.

The Panthers opened the tournament with a 3-over par 291, the best score of the first round, on the Par 72 layout at the University Club at Arlington. But while Georgia State managed a 300 in the second round, Austin Peay moved ahead with a 1-over 289. The Governors, at 9-over for the tournament, lead GSU, at 15-over, by six strokes entering Tuesday's final round.

Weber, the rookie from Laufen, Basel-land, Switzerland, is in a group of players tied for fifth place at 2-over par after shooting 72-74 on the Par 72 layout at the University Club at Arlington. She is four shots off the individual lead, held by Ruth Toennessen of Morehead State with a 2-under 142.

Kelly Strickland (74-74) and Mahina Leveau (73-75) are tied for 19th at 4-over for the Panthers.
