Batista Clinches For Panthers in 4-3 Victory Over Presbyterian

Box Score PEACHTREE CITY, Ga.— Georgia State men's tennis secured a 4-3 victory over Presbyterian at Peachtree City Tennis Center on Friday afternoon. Ricardo Batista clinched match point for the Panthers with a 6-3, 6-3 win at singles court six helping GSU chart its second win for the 2023 season.

A native of Lisbon, Portugal, Batista secures his first singles victory competing for the Panthers with the win in straight sets facing Presbyterian. The freshman previously notched his first collegiate win partnering with teammate Edward Tymes at No. 3 doubles in the team's season opener.

GSU entered Friday's match facing the Blue Hose and fell short at the first and second doubles court positions. 0-1 down for the match after dropping the early point, GSU evened the count with a one-sided 6-1, 6-2 victory from Gabriele Datei at No. 3 singles.

After dropping at the second court and falling behind, 1-2, GSU once again tied the match at 2-2 as Diogo Morais posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the fourth court. The freshman has seen victory playing the No. 4 singles court four times since beginning competition for the Panthers in 2023.

Rallying back down a set, Roberts Grinvalds downed his opponent at the top court with a three-set victory, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6. The fifth-year has competed at the top court for both singles and doubles play in every outing for GSU since entering the 2023 season.

Leading 3-2, Batista secured match point for the Panthers with the win at singles No. 6. The match ended at a 4-3 count in favor of GSU.

The Panthers will return to action on Friday, March 3 as the team travels to Birmingham, Alabama for a dual match facing UAB. Match time is slated for 2 p.m. ET with information regarding live stats and streaming to be announced later in the week.
