Strickland Leads Panthers on Day 1 of Atlantic Invitational

BOYNTON BEACH, FLA, -- Senior Kelly Strickland was Georgia State's top individual on Day 1 of the Atlantic Invitational in Boynton Beach, Fla., as the senior from Alpharetta, Ga., stands in a tie for 11th place after 36 holes.

After shooting an even par 71 in Monday's first round, Strickland carded four birdies on the back nine, to finish the second round with a 1-under par 70 and a two-round total of 141. She is six strokes behind co-leaders Letizia Bagnoli of Florida Atlantic and Lousiane Gauthier Florida Gulf Coast.

In its first tournament of the spring, Georgia State stands tied for fifth in the team standings, 11 shots behind leader Florida Golf Coast entering Tuesday's final round at the 5,840-yard, Par 71 West Course at Indian Spring Country Club.

Mahina Leveau is just one stroke behind Strickland after shooting 71-71. She is tied for 13th place.

Ari Acuff rebounded from a 74 in the first round to shoot a one-under 70 for a two-round score of two-over at 144.

Tuesday's final round is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
