Fugel, Diez Named to All-Sun Belt Preseason Team for 2022

ATLANTA— Georgia State women's soccer sophomore forward Brooklynn Fugel and senior defender and midfielder Eva Diez Lois have been named to the Sun Belt Conference's preseason all-conference team as announced by the league on Monday. The honors were voted upon by the league's 14 head coaches. 

Entering the fall 2022 campaign having earned All-Sun Belt First Team honors a year prior, Fugel posted a team-high seven goals in 2021 and finished ranked sixth in the conference in scoring. Fugel's seven goals charted her first among all SBC true-freshman in scoring.

Diez finished the 2021 season logging 1027 minutes on the Panthers' back line and at midfield. In addition to the senior's stout defensive play, Diez connected on four goals for GSU and scored twice in the team's 2-1 quarterfinal victory over Appalachian State in the Sun Belt Championship.

The Sun Belt Conference also announced its 2022 preseason poll on Monday with GSU landing at third in the East Division. SBC newcomers Old Dominion and James Madison finished first and second in the East respectively, while South Alabama topped the West Division ranking. 

The Panthers enter the 2022 season on Monday with the team's first of two exhibition matches. GSU will host Truett McConnell on Monday, Aug. 8 at 7 p.m. ET before gearing up to travel to DeLand, Fla. to face Stetson on Aug. 13.
