ATLANTA – On her Senior Day, midfielder Brook Nelson scored her first career goal to lift Georgia State women's soccer to a 1-0 victory over App State Thursday night at the GSU Soccer Complex. The Panthers improved to 6-3-1 overall and 2-0 in Sun Belt play.
Nelson delivered the dream moment less than two minutes into the match. In the 2nd minute, she finished off a long pass from defender Lily Sawyer to give the Panthers the early lead. The goal, the first of Nelson's GSU career, stood as the difference on a night the senior was honored pre-match for her four years in the program.
Georgia State's defense made the advantage hold, securing its second consecutive clean sheet. The Mountaineers fired 14 shots, but goalkeeper Alondra Iriarte was sharp in her first start of the season, making four saves to earn the shutout.
