Panthers Head South to Renew Rivalry with Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia State women's soccer (6-5-1, 2-2 Sun Belt) looks to rebound from a tough road stretch as the Panthers travel to face in-state rival Georgia Southern (2-7-3, 0-2-2 Sun Belt) on Thursday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Eagle Field, with the match streaming live on ESPN+.

Panthers Seek to Get Back on Track

After opening Sun Belt play with back-to-back wins over Southern Miss and App State, Georgia State looks to halt a two-match skid following narrow road losses at Marshall (3-2) and Texas State (2-1). The Panthers aim to return to their early-season form, which saw them win five of their first seven matches, including a historic 2-1 victory at Florida — the program's first win over an SEC opponent since 2005.

Offense Remains Among the League's Best

Georgia State has scored 26 goals in 12 matches, ranking among the top attacks in the Sun Belt while averaging 2.17 goals per game.

  • Junior forward Hina Suzuki leads the Panthers with six goals, followed by senior forward Emily Glenn with four goals.

  • Senior forward Reese Gordon (3 goals, one assist) and sophomore Sunniyah Tucker (2 goals, four assists) continue to provide depth in the attack.

  • Team captain Aaliyah Faddoul, who has three goals and a team-leading five assists, also leads the NCAA in shots on goal per game (2.83) and has recorded at least one shot on goal in every match this season.

Balanced Midfield and Defensive Backbone

Veteran midfielder Brook Nelson provided the game-winner in the 1-0 victory over App State earlier in conference play, while freshman defender Lily Sawyer has contributed two assists and scored the equalizer in the Panthers' road win at Florida.

In goal, redshirt sophomore Ariana Anderson has started 11 matches, recording 44 saves, three shutouts, and a season-high 12 saves at South Carolina. Sophomore Alondra Iriarte added a clean sheet in her first career start against App State.

Series History

Georgia State leads the all-time series with Georgia Southern 16-10-5, including a 2-1 win last season in Atlanta. The Panthers have won four of the last five meetings against the Eagles.
