Late Goal Sinks Panthers in 2-1 Loss at Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Georgia State women's soccer struck early but fell 2-1 on the road to Texas State on Saturday night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

The Panthers grabbed the lead in the 15th minute when a Texas State own goal off a dangerous cross gave GSU the 1-0 advantage. Georgia State continued to press in the first half, creating several chances, including a shot from Sunniyah Tucker that forced a save and an effort by Emily Glenn that hit the woodwork.

The Bobcats leveled the match in the 57th minute. Helen Alormenu scored on a well-timed finish off a feed from Victoria Meza and Mady Soumare.

Despite Georgia State's efforts to regain the lead, Texas State struck again late. In the 87th minute, Soumare scored the match-winner, finishing a cross from Alexis Montgomery to give the Bobcats a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish.

The Panthers finished with six total shots, putting four on target, while the Bobcats recorded 13 shots with five on goal. Tucker led GSU with three shots, two on frame, while Aaliyah Faddoul added a shot on target.

Goalkeeper Ariana Anderson made three saves before giving way to Alondra Iriarte in the 58th minute.

The loss dropped Georgia State to 6-5-1 overall and 2-2 in Sun Belt play, while Texas State improved to 6-2-3 and remained unbeaten in league action.

The Panthers will look to bounce back on the road Thursday when they visit rival Georgia Southern in Statesboro.
