Deady Homers to Lead Win at Georgia Southern in Regular-Season Finale

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 STATESBORO -- Carolyn Deady hit a 3-run home run and Hallie Adams tossed a complete game to lead Georgia State to a 4-3 win over Georgia Southern in the final regular-season game for both teams Saturday at Eagle Field.

Deady, the sophomore catcher, hit her ninth homer of the season in the fifth inning to give the Panthers (19-31, 9-15 Sun Belt) a 4-0 lead. Georgia State also got a sacrifice fly from Emma Yanes in the second inning.

Georgia Southern (6-18, 13-33) scored one run in the sixth and two in the seventh, but the Panthers held on for the win.

Adams (5-12), the freshman hurler, allowed three runs but only two earned on eight hits. She struck out seven and walked none.

Earlier Saturday, the two teams completed Game 2 of the series, which was suspended in the fourth inning Friday. Gabby Benson hit two homers for Georgia State, one on Friday and one on Saturday after the resumption. But Georgia Southern scored seven runs in the fifth inning to win 8-3.

The Sun Belt Conference Championship begins Tuesday in Mobile, Ala. Georgia State will be the seventh seed and will open the tournament by facing Georgia Southern, the 10th seed, in a single-elimination game on Tuesday, May 10 at 2 p.m. ET at Jaguar Field. The winner of that contest will advance to the double-elimination bracket and face No. 2 seed South Alabama Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET.
