ATLANTA, GA- The Georgia State Panthers (18-29, 8-13 Sun Belt) will travel to take on the Georgia Southern Eagles (11-32, 4-17 Sun Belt) in Statesboro, Georgia. The series will start on Thursday, May 5 with the first pitch set for 6 pm ET. All games will be aired on ESPN+.
GEORGIA STATE NOTES
Bailee Richardson led the team over the weekend with a Batting average of .324. She went two for three and three for four in Saturday's win over ULM.Â
Panthers remain aggressive in base running as Daisy Hess still leads the Panthers overall in stolen bases with 26 on the season and sits alone at number two in the conference. Emily Brown and Chloe Middlebrooks sit not too far behind with 21 and 19 stolen bases. All three sit in the 2,3 and 4 spots in the Sun Belt.
Emily Buck started in two games of the series over the weekend. Emily Hodnett also had a start and Sophie Mooney entered as a relief pitcher.Â
GEORGIA SOUTHERN AND GEORGIA STATE
Georgia State is coming off a series win against ULM but fell in the last game of the series. The Panthers currently sit above Georgia Southern in the conference and look for a second straight series win.
Georgia Southern was swept over the weekend by South Alabama. The eagles currently sit in last in the conference.
SERIES HISTORY
The Panthers and the Eagles have been playing against one another since 2007. The Panthers have the lead, 20-16 but Georgia Southern has claimed victory in seven of the last eight matchups.Â
The last time the pair met was in the conference tournament in 2021. The Panthers came away with the win to advance to the elimination round, 4-1.
It will be a close battle between the two teams as the rivalry continues. This will be the last series of the season before the Sun Belt Conference Tournament starts on May 10.
