CONWAY, SC- Georgia State (16-26, 6-11 Sun Belt) falls to Coastal Carolina (17-24, 3-14 Sun Belt) as they break the all-time school record for stolen bases in a season.
Both teams rallied throughout the entire game, each team scoring after the other.
To start off the game Chloe Middlebrooks was hit by a pitch, which she leads in the Sun Belt for, to get on base first for the Panthers. Skylar Chavez came to plate and hit a homerun out to left field to get the Panthers on the board first (2-0).
The Panthers went up one more run when Jackie Gonzalez doubled to left field and brought home Carolyn Deady who had previously been walked.
Another double by Sophie Mooney put her in scoring position, along with a single from Bailee Richardson who advanced to third. Hess brought in Richardson on a single base hit. That's not all, two more Panthers made it home on two wild pitches.
The Chanticleers hit three homeruns of their own but never held a lead before hitting a three run walk off homerun to end the game.
The bats were powered up today as the Panthers had five doubles and two homeruns on the day. Doubles were hit by Emily Brown, Middlebrooks, Richardson, Mooney and Gonzalez. Home runs were hit by Carolyn Deady and Skylar Chavez.
The Panthers stole a total of six bases throughout the game. Three from Daisy Hess, two from Middlebrooks and one from Brown. The school record for stolen bases has sat at 92 since 1999. The number now sits at 96 (2022) and will increase as the Panthers continue to be aggressive on the bases.
The Panthers will face the Chanticleers one more time tomorrow in Conway, first pitch set for 12 pm ET.
