Top-Seeded Panthers Prepare for SBC Championship Tournament on Friday

ATLANTA- Having finished the regular season at 15-7 overall with a 5-1 record in Sun Belt Conference play, the Georgia State men's tennis team will compete in the 2022 SBC Men's Tennis Championship Tournament beginning on Friday, April 15. No. 63 GSU clinched the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament and secured the SBC regular season title after defeating conference rival Georgia Southern last week.

The SBC regular season champs check in at No. 63 for the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) collegiate men's tennis rankings. Top pair Andrei Duarte and Roberts Grinvalds also sit at No. 85 overall for the ITA collegiate doubles rankings.

Numerous Panthers received Sun Belt awards and accolades as announced by the conference on Wednesday, including head coach Jonathan Wolff for 2022 Sun Belt Men's Tennis Coach of the Year. In his fifth season coaching for GSU, Wolff has led the Panthers to four consecutive SBC Regular Season Titles with appearances in the conference championship in every season.

ITA ranked duo Duarte and Grinvalds received All-Sun Belt Doubles First Team honors, while No. 2 pair Harvey Maughan and Kevin Huynh were named All-Sun Belt Doubles Second-Team. Duarte and Grinvalds were each named All-Sun Belt Singles First-Team and Second-Team respectively.

In addition to the SBC accolades, Duarte received Sun Belt men's tennis Player of the Week honors on Wednesday for the first time in his distinguished five-year career with the Panthers. The fifth-year senior is currently the all-time leader for wins in school history.

Senior Vazha Shubladze was also named GSU Student-Athlete of the Week for his performance in the team's finals week of regular season competition.

No. 63 GSU will enter the SBC Championship Tournament at Peachtree City Tennis Center in Peachtree City, Ga. on Friday, April 15. The Panthers will receive a bye to the semifinal round and will play the winner of Coastal Carolina versus Troy at 10 a.m. ET.

Matches will be broadcast on ESPN+ and live scoring will be provided by the conference. Additional information regarding live stats and broadcasting will be posted on the web and to the team's social media accounts leading up to Friday.
