Buck’s Complete Game Leads Softball to 3-2 Win Over Coastal Carolina

Box Score GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Redshirt-junior Emily Buck pitched a second complete game in as many days to lead the Georgia State softball team to a 3-2 win over Sun Belt Conference rival Coastal Carolina on Saturday at the Bubly Invitational.

Georgia State (7-9) won for the fifth time in the last seven games and improve to 2-1 this weekend in Gainesville.

Buck (4-3) pitched a complete game for the second straight day following a two-hitter against Tennessee State on Friday. Buck went 7.0 innings allowing just six hits and two runs while striking out four.

Coastal Carolina (9-8) tried to make things interesting in the top of the seventh before Buck was able to get out of the inning allowing just one run.

Coastal Carolina got on the board quickly in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom half of the inning, a wild pitch following a Daisy Hess walk tied the game 1-1 as Emily Brown came in to score.

Later in the inning, Hess came around to score after Sophie Mooney singled to second base to put the Panthers ahead 2-1.

Brown scored again in the bottom of the sixth on a Sofia Tunon groundout to shortstop, giving the Panthers ahead 3-1 lead.

The Chanticleers got a home run from Madison Hudson in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit in half but could get no closer.

Kaitlin Beasley Polko (4-3) took the loss for Coastal Carolina despite allowing just two hits and striking out three.

Georgia State will return to the field on Sunday with the Panthers facing Tennessee State at 9 a.m., followed by a rematch with Florida at 2 p.m.

Following the games this weekend, Georgia State will head to Athens on Wednesday to face No. 16 Georgia at 6 p.m.
