Panthers Set to Travel for Road Match Against Chattanooga on Sunday

Chattanooga, TN.- Coming off a weekend tripleheader at home that saw a shorthanded Panthers unit drop two of three matches, the Georgia State men's tennis team returns to road play as the Panthers travel for a match against Chattanooga on Sunday, March 13 at 1 p.m. ET. The Panthers sit at 7-6 on the season currently and prepare to enter conference play following the outing at UTC.

Despite a strong effort, GSU fell to ranked opponents North Florida, 4-3, and Liberty, 4-3, while managing to secure a win over Alabama State, 4-0, finishing 1-2 over the weekend. The depleted roster was without senior Roberts Grinvalds in its match against Liberty while head coach Jonathan Wolff missed all three of the team's matches due to COVID-19 related protocol. Returning to play for GSU a weekend prior, senior Vazha Shubladze was forced to retire in his match against Liberty on Sunday following the re-aggravation of a previous injury.

Despite the minor setback, Grinvalds and doubles partner Andrei Duarte remain ranked as the No. 74 doubles pair in the nation with consistently strong performances throughout the spring. Highlighted by a dominant victory over Liberty, 6-3, 6-1, in the No. 1 singles position as well as a victory over North Florida, 7-5, in No. 1 doubles, Duarte posted stellar performances in all three matches for GSU as the fifth year received yet another nomination for Sun Belt men's tennis Player of the Week.

With the UTC match marking the final non-conference outing for the Panthers before entering Sun Belt competition, the opportunity to make a return trip to Peachtree City, Ga. and the hopes of securing a Sun Belt title remain very much within reach for the team.

Sunday's match against UTC will be played at UTC Tennis Center in Chattanooga, TN. More information on live scoring will be posted to the team's social media pages and online later in the week.
