Women’s Golf Leads Following Opening Round of Lady Bison Classic

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – With Kelly Strickland and Emma Berlin tied for second place individually, the Georgia State women's golf team stood in a tie for first place following the opening round of the Lady Bison Bay Point Classic, presented by Under Armour on Monday.

Play was halted late in Round 2 due to darkness and will resume at 8:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday morning with Round 3 to start immediately after.

Berlin made three birdies during her opening round 2-over par 74, while Strickland made two as the pair sat just one stroke off the lead following Round 1. No player broke par during the morning round with unseasonably cool and wet conditions along the Gulf Coast.

Georgia State finished the morning with a 22-over par 310 to sit in a tie with Lipscomb. The two schools were two strokes ahead of USC Upstate and Western Carolina.

"Today was a difficult day but the team did a good job of not letting the conditions get to them," head coach Jessica Steward said. "It was cold, raining on and off, and the pins were in tough positions. We got off to a great start but there are a few teams making a charge as we finish up round two. We're going to have to learn from some of the mistakes we've made and finish strong tomorrow."

This week marks the first of four spring events leading up to the Sun Belt Conference Championship in mid-April.
