Softball Opens I-75 Challenge Friday at KSU; Home Opener Saturday

ATLANTA – The Georgia State softball team will open a slate of five games in the I-75 Challenge on Friday night at Kennesaw State before playing its first home games of the season on Saturday and Sunday at the Bob Heck Softball Complex.

Georgia State (2-6) will open the weekend traveling up I-75 to face Kennesaw State at 4:30 p.m., on Friday, followed by a match-up with ETSU at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, the Panthers will start a four-game homestand hosting Jacksonville State for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. The weekend will close out on Sunday hosting Penn State at noon.

Junior Bailee Richardson continues to lead Georgia State batting .385 with three home runs, five runs scored and nine RBI.

Under first year head coach Angie Nicholson, the Panthers have shown to be a threat on the basepaths stealing 20 bases on just 25 attempts through the first eight games.

Gabby Benson is also off to a solid start batting .294, while Emily Brown, Daisy Hess and Chloe Middlebrooks share the team with four stolen bases a piece.

Kennesaw State enters the weekend at 2-6, while ETSU is 4-5 having won its last two games. Jacksonville State will come to Atlanta on Saturday with a 6-4 record, while Penn State is 6-3 having played in a pair of Florida tournaments to start the year.

Following play this weekend, Georgia State will remain at home to host Auburn on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
