Merrill Named Center Parc Credit Union Student-Athlete of the Week

Georgia State forward Deasia Merrill is this week's Center Parc Credit Union Student-Athlete of the Week after leading the Panthers to victory in three of their last four games.

The redshirt junior from Villa Rica scored 10 or more points in all four games this past week, averaging 15.5 points and nine rebounds while shooting .619 from the field. Her .595 field goal percentage this season is ranked 39th in the NCAA.

Her best game was against Bellarmine, when she scored a career-high 21 points on a remarkable 9-for-11 from the field with five rebounds.

Against Cleveland State, she scored 16 points with seven rebounds and a career-high four blocks, and then she scored 14 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds against St. Bonaventure the next day.

She recorded her first career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds against Winthrop on 5-of-6 shooting and has helped anchor a Panther defense which ranks 11th in the NCAA for field goal percentage defense at .329.

Merrill and the Panthers (4-4) will return to action on Wednesday, hosting Chattanooga at the GSU Convocation Center. Tipoff is at 6:30 p.m.
