Marston's 71 Leads Women's Golf at USA Intercollegiate

MOBILE, Ala. – Led by an opening round 1-under par 71 from redshirt-sophomore Jenny Marston, the Georgia State women's golf team stands in 11^th place following the first round of the USA Intercollegiate at the Robert Trent Jones Trail - Magnolia Grove (Crossings Course).

Marston, who took a redshirt last season, made a pair of birdies and just one bogey in her first round back to the course in nearly 18 months. She stands in a tie for 10^th with 36 holes to play.

The Panthers opening round 11-over 299 was good for 11^th place in the 17-team field. Georgia State stands just six strokes back of sixth place.

"This was a pretty solid round to kick off our season," head coach Jessica Steward said. "Although the ladies will admit we left a few shots out there, they put themselves within striking distance to climb up the leaderboard the next couple of days. They also made some really good decisions and had great attitudes out there. It was great to see Jenny have such a great round after her year off and it's nice to have her back."

Senior Ari Acuff made her Georgia State debut after transferring in from Kansas. Acuff shot a 2-over 74 and is tied for 31^st.

South Florida leads the field at 8-under par following an opening round 280, most of which came on the back of individual leader Melanie Green who shot a 7-under 65.

One Down, Two to Go: The tournament will continue Sunday and Monday playing 18 holes each day. Tee times will begin at 9 a.m. ET each day. Georgia State will be paired with Southern Miss and UAB on Sunday teeing off on Hole #1 at 9:54 a.m. ET.
