ATLANTA - The Georgia State men's and women's tennis teams both earned academic recognition from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Monday as both programs were named 2021 ITA All-Academic Teams. Additionally, both programs had several players earn Scholar-Athlete honors, as announced by the organization. 

Six players from the women's program were coined Scholar-Athletes including Ellie Aldrich, Alexia Alvarez, Eva Chivu, Denisa Gheorghe, Andreea Stanescu and Nansi Toskova. Chivu and Stanescu have received honors each of their three seasons at Georgia State, while this year marks Gheorghe's second consecutive season earning the honors. 

For the men's team, five players were named Scholar-Athletes, including Andrei Duarte, Roberts Grinvalds, Kevin Huynh, Patrick Lazo and Mihai Marinescu. This is the third consecutive year that Duarte has been named a Scholar-Athlete, while Lazo and Grinvalds are receiving honors for the second consecutive year.  

To be eligible for ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, student-athletes must be a varsity letter winner, have a minimum GPA of 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale) for the current academic year and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters. To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale), all student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form and all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
