Leveau's 70 Leads Women's Golf Charge at Sun Belt Championship

The final round of the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Championship was cancelled due to consistent rain in the Daytona Beach area. The results from Round 2 will be deemed final.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Georgia State women's golf team shot the third-lowest round of the day, improved by 22 strokes from round one, and now find themselves as part of a tight pack of teams entering the final round of the Sun Belt Conference Championship at LPGA International.

Freshman Mahina Leveau led the Panther charge on Monday with a 2-under 70 that included four birdies and moved her 22 spots up the leaderboard to 5-over par and into a tie for 17th following 36 holes of play.

Senior Petra Duran added an even par 72 that also included four birdies to remain at 5-over par for the championship and tied with Leveau entering the final round on Tuesday.

"Today was a phenomenal effort from the ladies, especially considering the conditions they faced," head coach Jessica Steward said. "It rained on and off all morning, and at one point in our round, the lightning was only one mile away from taking us off the course. We saw some exceptionally great play from Mahina and Petra specifically. As a team, we had an 11-shot deficit to overcome in comparison to the cluster of teams ahead of us, and they certainly led our charge in climbing up the leaderboard. We're pumped to finish strong tomorrow."

After struggling to an opening round 315 on Sunday, Georgia State shot a 5-over 293 on Monday, the sixth-best score of the championship so far. Although the Panthers remained in 10th place, the squad is now just 11 strokes back of fourth-place South Alabama as the teams compete one more time on Tuesday.

Following 36 holes of play, Coastal Carolina leads the 11-team field at 14-under par following a round of 278 on Monday. Coastal's Sophia Carlsen leads the field at 7-under par entering the final day of play.
