ATLANTA -- Georgia State women's tennis (2-14) hosts in-state rival Georgia Southern on Friday before battling UAB Sunday afternoon. Both matches will be played at Life Time Athletic in Peachtree Corners.
Last weekend the Panthers faced Coastal Carolina and Appalachian State both for the second time this season. Despite improving the scores on each court from the first meeting, GSU fell short to Coastal Carolina, as the Chanticleers took the match 4-0. The next day Maddy Frediani cruised to a quick victory to put GSU on the board, but ultimately Appalachian State would find wins on the remaining courts to clinch the win 4-1.
On Friday, Georgia State will face Georgia Southern for the second time this season. The first time the two rival squads squared off the Panthers struck first, taking the doubles point. Eva Chivu added to the GSU point total with a win on the top court. Despite the efforts, the Eagles were able to find four points on the remaining courts to earn the 4-2 victory. Georgia Southern now holds a 12-8 record and comes to Atlanta on a four-match winning streak. Friday's first serve is set for 10:00 a.m.
On Sunday Georgia State will meet an UAB team with a 10-6 record. The Blazers recently collected wins over Western Kentucky and Louisiana Tech. First serve against UAB is slated for a 2:00 p.m. start time.
