PEACHTREE CORNERS, Ga.- Georgia State women's tennis dropped a 4-0 decision to Sun Belt foe Coastal Carolina Friday afternoon.
The loss drops the Panthers to 2-13 on the season as the Panthers keep fighting for the first conference win of the campaign. Coastal Carolina moves to 10-3 with the result.
The Panthers fell behind after conceding the doubles point. Denisa Gheorghe and Nansi Toskova fell on the second court before Alexia Alvarez and Angel Carney kept the Panthers in play with a 7-5 result on the third court. Despite remaining close in the top position, Coastal Carolina edged out Andreea Stanescu and Ellie Aldrich to take the doubles point.
Georgia State could never regain footing as Coastal Carolina picked up points from courts three and six in singles play. Andreea Stanescu, Angel Carney, and Nansi Toskova all outlasted their opposition in the first sets. Despite their best efforts to put the Panthers on the board, the Chanticleers would clinch the team victory with a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Aldrich. Competition halted after Coastal Carolina secured the victory.
Georgia State will have a quick turnaround as they face Appalachian State tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. The Mountaineers edged past the Panthers 4-3 in the squads' first meeting of the year.
