PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – Georgia State men's tennis bested Presbyterian 6-1 Friday afternoon in front of a home crowd at the Peachtree City Tennis Center.
The Panthers are now on a five-game winning streak, as the result propels GSU to 9-5 on the season.
Georgia State's two ITA nationally ranked doubles pairs clinched the doubles point for the Panthers. First, No. 44 Harvey Maughan and Kevin Huynh took care of business on the top court with a 6-2 result. No. 68 Andrei Duarte and Roberts Grinvalds outlasted their opposition 7-5 to finish doubles play.
Duarte set the tone for GSU during singles play, cruising to a 6-2, 6-3 victory on the third court. The Blue Hose earned a straight set decision on court five to try to close the gap. Patrick Lazo extended the lead with a straight set victory on line six to put the Panthers within one of clinching the contest.
Vazha Shubladze clinched the GSU victory with a 6-3, 7-5 decision on the top court. Mihai Marinescu and Harvey Maughan both found victories to round out the match and add to the GSU point total.
The Panthers will have a quick turnaround as they return to Sun Belt action tomorrow. GSU will face in-state foe Georgia Southern at 2:00 p.m. at the Peachtree City Tennis Center. Fans can follow along via live stats.
