Box Score TROY, Ala.– Georgia State women's tennis (2-11) was bested by Sun Belt foe Troy (6-6) 4-1 Saturday afternoon at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
Andreea Stanescu and Ellie Aldrich cruised to victory on court two in doubles action, as the Trojans defeated the Panthers on court three. With all eyes on the top court, Troy was able to outlast Maddy Frediani and Eva Chivu 7-5 in a tight contest to take the one-point advantage.
The Trojans, who have won three of their last four outings, maintained a strong level of play going into singles competition. Troy collected victories over Eva Chivu and Nansi Toskova to put the Trojans within striking distance of the team victory. Andreea Stanescu, who leads Georgia State in singles victories this season, tacked on her seventh win with a straight set result on court two.
Despite the new found energy from the Georgia State side, Troy was able to find the final point of the match with a victory over Denisa Gheorghe on line six.
The Panthers will have a quick turn around as they square-off against South Alabama Sunday afternoon. This match will mark the final road contest of 2021 for the Panthers.
