ATLANTA -- After a trio of contests in Florida, Georgia State (5-5) returns to host ETSU Friday afternoon before facing Chattanooga Sunday. Both contests will be held at the Peachtree City Tennis Center.
Last weekend Georgia State faced a pair of non-conference opponents in the Sunshine State. First, the Panthers met No. 34 USF. Georgia State stunned in doubles action, knocking off two ranked doubles pairings to earn the one-point advantage. Despite remaining competitive with the Bulls in singles play, USF emerged victorious on five courts to take the match, 5-1. The next day, GSU regained footing at Stetson. The Panthers once again earned the doubles point. This time GSU kept the momentum alive in singles action, accumulating victories on four courts.
Last weekend, Harvey Maughan earned two doubles wins at the top position and one singles victory en route to being named this week's Sun Belt Men's Tennis Player of the Week. The junior transfer has accumulated six singles victories this season, the most on the Georgia State roster.
GSU will face an ETSU team that holds a 4-5 overall record. The Bucs are currently riding a three game winning streak, collecting decisions over Charlotte, Wofford, and UNCG. Friday's first serve is slated for 1:00 p.m. Sunday, the Panthers will meet a Chattanooga team which has notched a 4-6 record. The Mocs dropped a meeting with Tennessee Tech Tuesday night, which ended a four game winning streak for the Mocs. The Sunday afternoon tilt is also set for a 1:00 p.m. start time.
