Duran, Leveau Lead Women's Golf to Dual Match Win Over Dayton

ATLANTA – In cold, wet, and windy conditions, the Georgia State women's golf team opened the 2020-21 season on Monday with a dual match victory over Dayton as Petra Duran and Mahina Leveau shared low medalist honors.

Originally scheduled as a two-day, 36-hole event, the match was shortened to one day due to increasingly wet conditions.

Georgia State shot a 28-over par, 316, as a team, as Duran and Leveau each shot rounds of 4-over 76. Kelly Strickland placed third with a 9-over 81, while Courtney Lewis came in fourth following an 11-over 83.

"I'm proud of how hard the ladies fought today under such tough conditions," head coach Jessica Steward said. "The course was soaked, it was cold, windy, and raining on and off. Petra and Mahina were especially impressive. Limiting their over par holes to what they did was no easy task.

"This match was a great tune-up and highlighted some areas we need to tighten up before our event at Georgia Southern this weekend. We'll put in a couple solid days of practice and then are looking forward to getting back into the tournament routine."
