Shubladze Named GSU Student-Athlete of the Week

ATLANTA -- Recording in a win at the No. 1 singles position in the season opening match, Vazha Shubladze was named this week's Georgia State Student-Athlete of the Week on Monday.

Shubladze cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory in Saturday's season opener against Charlotte, playing in the No. 1 spot. The junior's victory was the lone point in singles action for the Panthers during the day.

The 2019 Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year also represented Georgia State in doubles action where his match went unfinished as GSU clinched the doubles point on the other courts.

Shubladze enters the 2021 season after ranking as high as No. 104 in the Oracle/ITA singles rankings following last year's shortened season.

Shubladze and the Panthers will return to action this Friday taking to the road to face Liberty in Lynchburg, Va., at 2 p.m.
