ATLANTA - Georgia State wrapped up its 2021 fall campaign this weekend as four Panthers traveled across town to compete in the Georgia Tech Invitational, while Andrei Duarte and Roberts Grinvalds traveled to San Diego, Calif., to compete in the ITA National Fall Championships.
Georgia Tech Invitational
At the Georgia Tech Invitational, Georgia State competed against power five foes Ole Miss, Mississippi State and host Georgia Tech.
For the Panthers, Harvey Maughan, Diego Padilha, Patrick Lazo and Edward Tymes competed in doubles and singles action over the three-day event.
As a team, Georgia State accumulated a 4-7 singles record and a 2-4 doubles mark for the tournament.
Notable Panther victories from the Georgia Tech Invitational include Maughan's 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 singles victory over John Lithén of Ole Miss and Maughan/Padilha's 6-2 doubles victory over Tortora/Malesavic of Mississippi State.
Tymes also earned a notable 6-3, 7-5 singles victory over Seth Richey of Mississippi State, while Lazo earned a stellar 7-5, 6-2 singles win over Walker Stearns of Ole Miss.
ITA National Fall Championships
After reaching the semifinals of the ITA Southeast Regionals two weeks ago, Duarte and Grinvalds were invited to the ITA National Fall Championships this weekend in San Diego, Calif.
The ITA top-60 duo had a pair of strong performances this weekend but fell just short in both contests. Duarte and Grinvalds' efforts were highlighted by a narrow 7-5, 2-6 [9-11] loss to Manuel/Burdet of Arkansas.
