GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Georgia State women's tennis (0-2) fell 7-0 to No. 21 Florida (1-0) Monday afternoon at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
The Gators secured the doubles point after victories at the No. 2 and 3 positions to take a 1-0 advantage going into singles play. Georgia State's Eva Chivu and Andreea Stanesu stunned the No. 26-nationally ranked duo of McCartney Kessler and Marlee Zein on court one with a 6-3 victory. This marks the first victory over ranked opposition for the Panther duo.
Florida carried over its momentum into singles competition. The Gators found victories on each of Georgia State's lines. With all the other courts decided, Angel Carney continued to fight on court three. Ultimately, Carney was outlasted 6-3, 6-4 as Florida finished the sweep.
GSU is back in action at 2 p.m. Wednesday against No.7 Georgia.
