*Georgia State women's tennis begins the 2021 season with a tough four match slate over five days.
*The Panthers return five players from last season's roster, including 2019 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year selection Eva Chivu. 
*GSU welcomes three freshmen to this year's squad Ellie Aldrich, Maddy Frediani, and Nansi Toskova. 
*Georgia State will host Liberty at Lifetime Fitness in Peachtree Corners on Saturday. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. 
 

ATLANTA, Ga.- Georgia State women's tennis will begin their quest for a third NCAA Tournament appearance in six years when the Panthers begin play on Saturday afternoon hosting Liberty.  

The Panthers will continue action with a trio of road meetings against Power Five opposition. First, GSU will head to Gainesville, Fla., for a Monday contest against Florida. The following day GSU will battle across town rival Georgia Tech before traveling to Athens, Ga. for a midweek match against Georgia on Wednesday. 

Georgia State finished the shortened 2020 season with a 5-8 record, ending the season on a three-match winning streak. With no seniors on this year's roster, juniors Eva Chivu and Andreea Stanescu look to lead the team. The pair will be crucial to GSU's upcoming success. Chivu and Stanescu both earned eight victories in singles action last season. In doubles, the duo found three wins as a pair. 

Sophomores Alexia Alvarez, Angel Carney, and Denisa Gheorghe provide additional experience to the young GSU lineup. Carney, who split time primarily between the No. 3 and No.4 spot in singles, won two matches as a freshman. Gheorghe earned her first collegiate dual match win with a victory over Kennesaw State. In doubles, Alvarez and Carney found two victories as a pair. 

Along with the team's veterans, three freshmen round out Georgia State's roster.
