ATLANTA- Georgia State men's and women's tennis programs were named 2020 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Teams. In addition, several Panthers from both rosters were named ITA Scholar-Athletes, the organization announced Monday morning.
For the men Andrei Duarte, Patrick Lazo, Roberts Grinvalds, and Diego Padilha were named scholar-athletes. Duarte is being recognized for the second consecutive year. All four players were named to Georgia State's Dean's List at the conclusion of the Spring semester.
On the women's roster Eva Chivu, Denisa Gheorghe, Mara Pop, Andreea Stanescu, and Aleksandra Stromova earned recognition. The rising juniors, Chivu and Stanescu, are being recognized for the second straight year. Chivu, Gheorghe, Stanescu, and Stromova all finished the Spring semester on Georgia State's President's List while Pop was named to the Dean's List.
To be eligible for ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, student-athletes must be a varsity letter winner, have a minimum GPA of 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale) for the current academic year and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must meet have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale), all student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
