Top Plays in GSU History: Lutz's Game-Winner

Future NFL Star Gives Panthers First Win as FBS Program

THE GAME: Georgia State vs. Abilene Christian, Aug. 27, 2014 at the Georgia Dome

THE PLAY: Wil Lutz booted a 27-yard field goal with just four seconds left to as the Panthers overcame an 11-point deficit in the final five minutes to earn a 38-37 victory over Abilene Christian in the 2014 season opener. The first game-winning kick for the future NFL star also gave Georgia State it's first victory as an FBS program.

THE DRIVE: Trailing 37-28 late in the game, GSU quarterback Nick Arbuckle hit tight end Joel Ruiz with a 9-yard touchdown to cap a 77-yard drive and pull the Panthers within 37-35 with 4:31 to play.

The Panthers' winning drive began at their own 19 with 2:41 on the clock and included a 58-yard scoring pass to Donovan Harden that was called back on a holding penalty. Arbuckle made the miscue a distant memory as he continued to push the Panthers down the field, twice converting on fourth down to keep the drive alive. After a first down at the ACU 39, Arbuckle rushed 13 yards to the 26, spiked the ball to stop the clock, then rushed 17 yards to 9-yard line. One more spike, and Lutz trotted out for the winning kick.

WIL LUTZ AFTER THE GAME:
"Being able to pull out a win in that fashion is just awesome for the guys. Getting me down there was all them."
