WALLACE, N.C. – After a bit of a slow start to the day, the Georgia State women's golf team shot one of the best rounds of the afternoon to sit in seventh place following day one of the River Landing Classic at River Landing Country Club.

After shooting a 306 in the morning, the Panthers rebounded with a 6-over 294 in the afternoon to sit at 24-over par with the final round to play on Tuesday. Georgia State is just 10 strokes off the lead of a very tightly packed leaderboard.

The Panthers were led on day one by senior Harmanprit Kaur and freshman Jenny Marston who are tied for 12th place at 5-over par. Kaur shot 77-70, while Marston shot 78-71 on Monday. For Kaur it was her lowest round of the season, while Marston tied for her lowest round of the year.

"We got off to a slow start today and that was hard to recover from," head coach Jessica Steward said. "We were 6-over par during our first four holes. However, this group doesn't give up and they kept fighting throughout the day.

"On a positive note, we put a little extra emphasis on making birdies today because the course had some scoreable pins. We did well in that regard and were tied for the lead if you include Chloe's eagle. The afternoon was a much better round from the squad. We saved par a lot more and hit better approach shots. It was great to see Jenny and Harman come back in a big way."

Sophomore Emma Berlin added rounds of 75 and 77 to sit tied for 29th at 8-over par entering Tuesday. Junior Chloe Howard and freshman Kelly Strickland are tied for 40th at 11-over par. Howard opened with a 74 but stumbled to an 81 in the afternoon. Strickland opened with a 79 but improved to a 76 in the afternoon.

High Point, Boston University, and USC Upstate share the Round 2 lead at 14-over par. Jacksonville State is in fourth place at 21-over par, with ETSU in fifth place at 22-over par.

Boston University's Katerina Doleckova and High Point's Sarah Kahn share the day one lead at 1-under par. ETSU's Tereza Melecka is in third place at even par, while USC Upstate's Beem Pabsimma is in fourth place at 1-over par. Charleston Southern's Ellen Hume and Jacksonville State's Ana Perez Altuna are tied for fifth place at 2-over par.
