Bats Explode for 16 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep

GSU won both games against Rider Saturday at the Bob Heck Softball Complex.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ATLANTA -- Georgia State scored a combined 16 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Rider Saturday at the Bob Heck Softball Complex.

The Panthers run-ruled the Broncos in Game 1, winning 9-0 in five innings. GSU won 7-3 in Game 2.

Freshman Daisy Hess was one of several Panthers that had big days at the plate. Hess hit her third home run of the season in Game 2 and finished the day with three hits and four RBI.

GSU also got two solid performances in the circle Saturday. Sophie Mooney got the start in the first game and threw a complete-game shutout while allowing just one hit and striking out five. Emily Buck went the distance in Game 2 and held Rider scoreless through the first six innings.

Georgia State wasted no time piling on runs in the Game 1. The Panthers scored four in the first and four more in the second to cruise to the run-rule victory in five innings. Sydney Stavro tripled and drove in a pair of runs and Bailee Richardson went 1-for-1 with three RBI and a double. Caitlin Ray also doubled on her way to a 2-for-3 game.

In Game 2, the Panthers jumped Rider early again, posting five runs in the bottom of the second. Baylee Sexton went 3-for-4 and Kalynn Hicks hit her first home run of the season.

Georgia State wraps up the I-75 Challenge Sunday at 1 p.m. against Iowa State at the Bob Heck Softball Complex.
