ATLANTA – Georgia State dropped its first home match of the season and saw its three-match winning streak come to an end on Saturday as the Panthers fell 7-0 to South Florida at the GSU Clarkston Courts.
The Panthers (4-7) entered Saturday having won the doubles point in three straight matches, but were unable to extend that streak as USF (6-4) secured wins on courts one and two to claim the doubles point and head into singles play with a 1-0 lead.
Despite losing the doubles point,
Quentin Coulaud/
Bailey Showers were able to notch a win at the No. 3 position, defeating South Florida's Sergio Gomez Montesa/Ivan Yatsuk 6-4 for their fourth consecutive doubles victory.
USF carried over its momentum into singles competition as the Bulls jumped out to a quick start by taking the first set on all six courts and clinched the team victory with wins on courts four, six and one. The remaining courts played 10-point superbreaker sets, except for court five which finished out its third set, which South Florida won 6-1.
Georgia State is set for a two-match road stretch against North Florida and Charlotte next weekend in Charlotte, N.C. The Panthers will face North Florida at 10 a.m. ET Saturday and Charlotte at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
