FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – Junior Chloe Howard shot a final round 69 and the Georgia State women's golf team fired a 1-under 287 to finish in a tie for fifth place at the Amelia Island Collegiate at Amelia National Golf Club on Tuesday.

The Panthers 1-under par round is the lowest for the program in more than 4.5 years dating back to the 2015 Fall Invitational. It tied for the sixth-lowest round in program history and the third-lowest third round total as well. The round left Georgia State at 23-over par for the 54-hole event.

Howard's 3-under par performance moved her into a tie for eighth place at even par. It is the lowest round of the year for a member of the team and tied for the seventh-lowest third round in program history. Her 216 three-round total was just one stroke outside of the top 10 lowest three round scores in program history.

"Today was the round we've been waiting for," head coach Jessica Steward said. "A day when the ladies came together and got a glimpse of what they're truly capable of. I can see their confidence has skyrocketed and I'm excited to see how this shapes the rest of our semester.

"We started the day with a lot of great teams near us and we knew we had to fight to keep our place in the standings. However, this team exceeded our goals for the day and performed extraordinarily well. Fifth place in this field is an accomplishment to be proud of. Chloe and Jenny had especially strong performances today. They both had amazing composure, hit so many great shots and really fought for their finishes."

Freshman Jenny Marston added a 2-under par 70 to finish the two-day event at 1-over par and in 11th place. Sophomore Emma Berlin added a 2-over 74 and finished tied for 35th at 9-over par, while senior Harmanprit Kaur also shot 74 and finished in a tie for 68th place at 20-over par. Redshirt-freshman Kelly Strickland, who was making her GSU debut, shot a final round 80 and finished the event tied for 65th at 19-over par.

Florida Gulf Coast shot a 3-over par 291 to finish the event at 4-under par and earn a one stroke win over North Florida which finished at 3-under par. Stetson came in third place at 12-over par with Western Kentucky placing fourth at 20-over par. The Panthers tied with FIU for fifth at 23-over par.

Stetson's Hanna Kiefer and Florida Gulf Coast's Haley Yerxa shared low medalist honors at 5-under par. In a three-way tie for third place at 3-under par were North Florida's Mindy Herrick, Florida Gulf Coast's Sarah Edwards, and Troy's Nicole Lorup.

Georgia State will next travel to Wallace, N.C., for the River Landing Classic March 9-10.
