GSU Bested by Iowa State

Mara Pop picks up the win in the effort

DES MOINES.- Georgia State women's tennis was topped 5-1 by Iowa State Sunday morning. The Panthers fell to 2-5 on the season while the Cyclones improve to 6-2.
 
Iowa State surged ahead in doubles action. Mara Pop and Aleksandra Stromova fell 6-0. The Cyclones clinched the one-point advantage with a 6-2 victory on line one.
 
The host school continued their momentum going into singles action. The Panthers would fall on courts two and four before Mara Pop secured the lone point for Georgia State. The freshman won 6-1, 6-2, marking her first collegiate dual match victory.
 
Eva Chivu held a lead in her three-setter, but the Cyclones clinched the match with wins on court three and five before she could finish.
 
The Panthers will head to the Sunshine State next week to face University of Florida, the second SEC opponent of the season, on Saturday. Alex Leatu's squad will stay in Florida to battle UNF Sunday. For more news and notes follow @GSUWTennis on Instagram and Twitter.
