Softball Prepares to Host Ranked Georgia Wednesday

The home opener for GSU softball will host #15/#17 Georgia.

ATLANTA -- Georgia State's softball team will host its first home game of 2020 Wednesday at 5 p.m. against ranked Georgia.

The Panthers defeated the Bulldogs in 2013 and 2014, but UGA has won five in a row since. It will mark the first time since 2005 that the Bulldogs will visit the Panthers. This season will be the 10 straight year for the GSU-UGA series. The first meeting between the two sides was in 1997.

Wednesday's game will have a free audio stream available at GeorgiaStateSports.com and on the GSU Athletics mobile app. John Morgo will have the call.

GSU faced two Top-25 teams already this season and a Fresno State team that is receiving votes. Georgia will mark the third ranked opponent in four games.

The Panthers picked up the first win of 2020 Saturday with a 10-2 run-rule victory over Illinois State at the USF-Rawlings Invitational in Tampa, Fla. Freshman pitcher Sophie Mooney struck out 12 and Caitlin Ray went 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBI.

Admission and parking at the Bob Heck Softball Complex is free. The softball facility is located at 2401 Wildcat Rd.
