ATLANTA – Georgia State men's tennis head coach Jonathan Wolff has announced the signing of Mihai Marinescu and Harvey Maughan, who will compete for GSU starting in Spring 2021. Additionally, Wolff announces the addition of Edward Tymes, who will join the team in Atlanta next Fall.
Mihai Marinescu- 6'0 | Ploiesti, Romania | National College Mihai Viteazul
Marinescu will join the GSU Panthers from Romania in the Spring. As a top junior in Romania and an excellent doubles player, Marinescu won the U18 Romanian Doubles National Championship. Additionally, he held a UTR high of 12.55.
Harvey Maughan- 6'2 | Hartlepool, England | Kennesaw State University
A native of England, Maughan joins Georgia State's squad after two years at Kennesaw State where he accumulated seven wins in both singles and doubles action. Prior to his collegiate career, Maughan was a standout player at William and Reed Academy where he was a two-year letter winner under head coach Carter McKenzie. Maughan went undefeated in his high school career, winning the GISA State Title in 2017 and 2018. Maughan swept his opponent 6-0, 6-0 in the state final in route to earning All-State and All-County honors. Maughan was a four-star recruit with a career high No. 49 national ranking and No. 3 ranking in Georgia.
Edward Tymes- 5'11 | Midland, Georgia | Calvary Christian School
Born and raised in Georgia, Tymes has recorded a standout junior career and is a four-star recruit. During the 2019 season he found much success, ranking first in the USTA Jrs. Boys 16s Division. In the same year he was named both the Al Parker Jr. and Columbus Regional Tennis Association Player of the Year. He was selected as a member of the Bill Ozaki Southern Cup Georgia Team, where he and his teammates placed first. During the 2020 season he ranked fifth in the USTA Jrs. Boys 18s Division. A multisport athlete, Tymes also participated in high school cross country. Additionally, Tymes has consistently excelled in the classroom and in his campus community. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and is the Student Government President.
