Men’s Tennis Set to Open Spring Season in ITA Kickoff Weekend

GSU takes on Old Dominion 9 a.m. ET Saturday

ATLANTA – The Georgia State men's tennis team is set for a challenging opening slate to the 2020 dual season, as the Panthers begin the spring schedule in the Chapel Hill Regional of the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Saturday and Sunday.

GSU (0-0) will face Old Dominion (3-0) at 9 a.m. ET on Saturday and will take on either No. 4 North Carolina or Elon in the consolation/championship match on Sunday. Live stats and live video will be provided throughout the weekend.

The Panthers are back in action after a strong showing during fall tournament play, where the team combined to produce a .538-win percentage in singles play and .636-win percentage in doubles play. Third-year head coach Jon Wolff will look to lead the blue and white to a second-straight Sun Belt regular season title after guiding his team to a 17-10 overall record in 2019 – tied for the fifth-most team wins in a single season in program history.

"The whole team is excited to get out there and compete in our first dual matches of the season," Wolff said. "We've put in the hard work on and off the tennis court in preparation for a tough regional. It will be a great test for our team to raise our level to the occasion."

Georgia State returns nine of its 11 student-athletes from last season, including seniors Quentin Coulaud and Bailey Showers. The pair went 10-1 during the 2019 dual season in doubles competition and most recently capped the fall tournament slate with a 4-1 record together, winning the championship of the B1 Doubles bracket in the Wake Forest Fall Invitational.

Also returning is 2019 Second Team All-Conference honoree and Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year Vazha Shubladze, won rounded out the fall with a 5-1 mark in singles play, including two victories over nationally ranked opponents.

Each regional within the ITA Kickoff Weekend is determined via the Kickoff Weekend Draft, where each team selects which regional they wish to participate in. Selections are made in order of the final 2018-2019 Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings.

The seeds for this weekend's men's ITA Kickoff in Chapel Hill are:
No. 1 North Carolina
No. 2 Georgia State
No. 3 Old Dominion
No. 4 Elon
