MONROE- Georgia State women's tennis was defeated 4-3 by UL Monroe Sunday afternoon despite singles wins from Eva Chivu, Daniela Ramirez, and Damira Muminovic. The loss drops GSU to 0-2 in conference play.
The Panthers faced an immediate hole as they forfeited the doubles point giving Monroe a 1-0 lead. The Warhawks would grab a 3-0 lead before the first serve, winning by walkover in the number five and six singles slots.
GSU would win three of the four remaining singles matches, but it would not be enough to overcome the early deficit. Muminovic earned a two set win 6-0, 6-3 followed by a 6-3, 6-2 win from Daniela Ramirez. Chivu would take a 7-6, 6-4 win on court one.
Georgia State will return home for a pair of matches next Saturday. The Panthers will battle UAB and Arkansas State at the GSU Clarkston Campus as part of a doubleheader.
